Rio Ferdinand has praised the performance of Everton’s Ben Godfrey after he came on for Seamus Coleman in the first half against Liverpool yesterday.
The Republic of Ireland international picked up an injury and therefore had to be replaced by the 22-year old in the 31st minute with the game tightly poised at 1-1.
The match finished 2-2 at Goodison Park as Carlo Ancelotti’s team had to come from behind twice against their bitter rivals thanks to goals from Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
On his Instagram story, Godfrey posted a picture of him with Sadio Mane with the caption ‘No better occasion to make my Everton debut! Great character shown by the lads,’ to which Ferdinand responded with ‘solid as’.
The England under-21 international clearly impressed the six-time winner of the Premier League with Manchester United, which is high praise indeed.
Godfrey was ‘solid’ for Everton
Indeed, Godfrey was pretty ‘solid’ for Everton as Ferdinand claimed, as he won five out of his seven duels and also managed to make three clearances despite not playing for the whole game, according to Sofascore.
He also managed to block two shots, which was the joint-most out of anyone else on the pitch, and recorded one key pass in the match.
Has Godfrey played his way into Ancelotti’s first XI?
Godfrey’s performance for Everton may have put him in the thoughts of Ancelotti for a starting place, and if Keane or Yerry Mina were to get injured or lose form, the former Norwich talent will feel that he is able to step in for the Toffees with no trouble at all.
Should Godfrey start for Everton?
