Everton have opened talks with Championship side Bournemouth over the possible signing of Asmir Begovic, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Begovic actually still has a year remaining on his contract at the Vitality Stadium but could move to Merseyside on a free transfer.

The Bosnian would pen a two-year deal and provide cover and competition for Jordan Pickford.

Robin Olsen occupied that role in the squad last season but he's now returned to AS Roma at the end of his loan spell.

The 'final decision' on the transfer will rest with new manager Rafael Benitez, Romano adds.

Begovic would be a vastly experienced deputy for Everton

Begovic, now 34, has played in excess of 250 Premier League games during his career, racking up 63 clean sheets in that time (via Transfermarkt).

Back in 2015, Chelsea paid £8million to sign him after he caught the eye at Stoke City.

Last season he helped Bournemouth reach the play-offs, where they were beaten by Brentford.
