Gabby Agbonlahor has dropped a damning claim on Cenk Tosun’s future at Goodison Park, adding that he thinks that Everton will look to bring in another striker this month.
The former Crystal Palace and Besiktas man has been linked with a move away to West Brom (via Sky Sports) in the January transfer window to link up with his former boss in Sam Allardyce, and Agbonlahor told Football Insider that he believes that the Goodison Park faithful will be looking into bringing in another striker, claiming that Tosun is ‘not what Everton need’:
“He’s done okay. But he’s not what Everton need to get to where they want to be.
“I’m sure Everton want to be in the top four and they’ve got a great chance.
“I’m sure they’ll be looking at bringing in another striker this month with a bit more legs.
“It will be interesting to see what they end up doing.”
Since Agbonlahor’s comments, the Toffees have been heavily linked with the signing of Joshua Zirkzee from Bayern Munich, via talkSPORT.
Tosun is not the answer for Everton
While the Merseyside club would certainly be short in the forward area if Tosun were to leave, the Turkey international is certainly not the answer for Carlo Ancelotti’s team as Agbonlahor suggests.
Should Everton sell Tosun?
The 29 year-old is at an age now in where his resale value may be the highest that it is ever going to be and thus it may be time to cash in on him as soon as possible.
He has not been prolific at all for the Toffees, scoring a mere 11 goals in a total of 58 games in all competitions over the last four consecutive terms (Transfermarkt), and so it may be wise for the Blues to try and find a suitable replacement in this window in order to provide some decent cover to the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison up top. Perhaps Zirkzee can be just that.
