Everton are 'practically certain' to sign Matheus Nunes in the summer transfer window.

The Lowdown: Midfielders needed

With recent rumours emerging that both Allan and James Rodriguez could be on their way to Real Madrid to join up with former Toffees manager Carlo Ancelotti, the Goodison Park club may be in desperate need of strengthening in the centre of midfield.

Even if both Allan and Rodriguez stay put, the Merseysiders would not say no to added squad depth ahead of the 2021/22 season.

The Latest: Nunes likely

As per Record (via Sport Witness), the Toffees are 'practically certain' to sign Nunes, with general terms of agreement being made between Everton and Sporting Lisbon.

However, the Portuguese champions are reportedly taking things calmly, and there is 'no haste' with regards to getting a potential deal done.

The Verdict: Sign Nunes

Playing in 31 Liga NOS games last season, scoring three goals and providing two assists (Transfermarkt), Nunes was a key figure in Sporting's recent title triumph, and his winning mentality would surely be a great asset for Everton to have both in the dressing room as well as on the pitch.

The midfielder also won 3.9 of his duels per game and averaged 1.2 successful dribbles and one key pass per match in 2020/21 (Sofascore).

At just 22 years of age as well, the Brazilian certainly has a lot of potential; and at a height of 1.83m (6 foot), he should have little problems in coping with both the physical and aerial demands of the Premier League.

While a potential deal looks close to being completed, Everton should be looking to wrap it up as soon as possible so that Nunes can be best prepared for pre-season.
