Everton: Idrissa Gueye’s performances for PSG have Toffees supporters reminiscing over midfielder

After Everton sold midfielder Idrissa Gueye in the summer transfer window to Paris Saint-Germain for a £28m fee, the former Aston Villa midfielder has gone on to accumulate some impressive outings for the French champions, leaving Toffees supporters in absolute awe over their former hero.

Gueye, who made 108 appearances overall on Merseyside, scoring four goals and assisting five more (Transfermarkt), was a key player in midfield for Everton last season before they decided to cash in on his talents. The 30-year-old amassed an 84.3% pass success rate in midfield over 32 starts in 2018/19 (WhoScored) but now it looks like he is bettering even those numbers in Ligue 1 with a noteworthy 93% accuracy (SofaScore).

By comparison, current Toffees defensive midfielder Fabian Delph has similar numbers with 86% but fails to match Gueye’s impressive tackles (4.3) and interceptions (2.2) on average last campaign. The Senegalese international is also drawing comparisons with Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante, with Gueye slightly edging his Premier League stats in terms of passing (84.3%) but being locked neck-and-neck when it comes to interceptions (2.2).
