While there may be the temptation to rest players against lower league opposition, many Everton fans are demanding their club takes the competition seriously – with some even suggesting Marco Silva should put out a full-strength side.
The two teams met last season in the FA Cup, with Everton coming out as 2-1 winners having fielded a strong side, including Gylfi Sigurdsson, Idrissa Gueye and Jordan Pickford, as per Transfermarkt.
Considering how close the game was last time around and the side Everton put out, it is understandable that fans are wary of fielding a far weakened side – especially as the opposition have now gone up a league.
Everton have never won the League Cup, last winning the FA Cup in 1994/95, as per Everton’s official website.
