‘FA Cup 2017/18 champions’ - Newcastle United fans delighted on Twitter at promising cup omens

After their recent run of things, the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern could do with some cheering up. Indeed, having lost five of the last six games, the punters propping up our bar are eager to put a smile back on their faces.

With that in mind, the fact that the Magpies were drawn against Luton Town in the FA Cup 3rd round has gone down a storm amongst our resident Geordie contingent. Not only is that a favourable draw for the Toon Army, a clash with the Hatters comes with some good omens.

The last time Rafa Benitez faced Luton was during the 2005-06 campaign while in charge of Liverpool, on his way to delivering the trophy for the Reds. As if that wasn’t enough, the last time Liverpool drew bitter rivals Everton in the 3rd round was 1932, the year Newcastle won the FA Cup.

Spooky.
