Arsenal have made a promising start to the 2016/17 Premier League campaign, with Arsene Wenger’s men currently sitting joint top of the division.
Their early season form has seen the feel-good factor return to the contingent of Arsenal supporters here in the Transfer Tavern, after 13 seasons of misery that hasn’t seen them lift a Premier League title.
The ardent Gunners are a likable bunch when they come in for a drinking session in the Tavern and they will hope to have the party to beat all parties in May, should they finally lift that title once again.
Boss Wenger came under fire yet again in the summer after failing to sign a stellar striker but so far his decision not to part with the club’s cash looks a good one, given the club’s flying start to the campaign.
The Tavern’s regular writer Lee Clarke had a look at two players who, if sold, would cause outrage among the Gunners faithful.
Olivier Giroud
Giroud is a bit like Marmite among the Gunners fans here in the Transfer Tavern, with some loving the Frenchman, whilst others would gladly drive him to his next club.
Given the club’s current predicament in attack, however, it is unlikely that his departure would please too many people should it become a reality.
A group of Giroud’s biggest fans are present here in the Tavern and they would be disgusted if the France international was allowed to leave during the January transfer window.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
The England winger has not fulfilled his potential with the Gunners yet and their supporters here in the Tavern believe that he has so much more left to offer.
The winger has been the subject of interest from potential suitors in the past and it remains to be seen whether Wenger will be tempted to cash in on the winger.
One elderly Gunner is sat by the jukebox here in the Tavern and he thinks that Oxlade-Chamberlain can still be a star of the future, stating that he hopes he sticks around the Emirates Stadium for a little while longer.
