Arsenal supporters have toasted a pint or two to Thierry Henry in the Football Transfer Tavern today after the former Gunners and France striker today announced his retirement from football at the age of 37.

Henry has signed a multi-million pound deal to work as a pundit for Sky Sports and ends a 20-year-trophy laden career having terminated his contract with the New York Red Bulls.

Henry won practically all there is to win during a career which saw him ply his trade at Monaco, Juventus, Barcelona and most famously Arsenal.

Henry became the Gunners’ top goalscorer of all-time during his career in North London and also became the fourth highest Premier League goalscorer of all time with 175 strikes to his name before he left for Barcelona in 2008.

“I would like to thank all the fans, team-mates and individuals involved with AS Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal, Barcelona, the New York Red Bulls and, of course, the French national team that have made my time in the game so special,” said Henry in a statement.

“I have had some amazing memories (mostly good!) and a wonderful experience. I hope you have enjoyed watching as much as I have enjoyed taking part. See you on the other side.”
