Leeds United supporters have been particularly quiet in the Transfer Tavern in recent weeks such has been their side’s disappointing run of form, which didn’t get any better at the weekend as the Yorkshire giants went down 1-0 at home to struggling Reading.

Thomas Christiansen’s men went into their clash with the Royals having lost three of their preceding four Championship games, yet they were unbeaten at Elland Road having won three and drawn the other two of their five matches. However, that run also came to an end on Saturday as former Leeds man Mo Barrow netted the winner six minutes from time to seal a much-needed 1-0 success for Jaap Stam’s side, who did also have goalkeeper Vito Mannone to thank for saving Pablo Hernandez’s tame penalty in the last minute.

And that result did little to improve the mood among our resident Leeds supporters over the weekend, although there may be some promising news to come as the Yorkshire giants have been linked with a move for Manchester United striker James Wilson.

The 21-year-old missed the majority of last season after sustaining a serious knee injury back in October, but appears to be working his way back to full fitness with five Premier League 2 appearances for the Red Devils this term.

However, such is Jose Mourinho’s abundance of attacking talent at Old Trafford that Wilson is unlikely to get regular football there, and as such Leeds are reportedly seeking a loan move for the Englishman in January.

And were they able to beat Reading to his signature, here is what their fearsome front line could look like…

Samu Saiz

Leeds United were extremely busy during the summer transfer window, and one of their most impressive signings was that of attacker Samu Saiz.

The Spaniard made the move from Huesca to link up with Christiansen’s side at Elland Road, and he has made a fine start to life in English football with six goals and two assists in 12 appearances for the Whites.

His hat-trick against Port Vale in the Carabao Cup back in August was a clear indication of what quality he possesses and what he can do in front of goal, and with two goals and two assists in the Championship so far, the 26-year-old has certainly found his feet in Yorkshire.

His form will be crucial in their quest for promotion this season.

Pablo Hernandez

He may have missed a penalty in the 1-0 defeat to Reading on Saturday, but Pablo Hernandez has made things click for Leeds ever since his arrival on loan from Al-Arabi last year.

The Spanish forward scored six goals and laid on eight assists last term to help Garry Monk’s side to their highest Championship finish since 2011, and he has started this season reasonably well also with two goals and three assists in 13 appearances.

Hernandez has featured in all 12 of their league games this season to underline his importance to Christiansen, and like Saiz his form will have a huge bearing on what Leeds go on to achieve this term.

Ezgjan Alioski

The arrival of Saiz generated much excitement among our resident Leeds fans during the summer, yet that went up another notch when Ezgjan Alioski made the move to Elland Road.

The 25-year-old forward left Lugano over the summer and has already hit the ground running with the Yorkshire giants, having scored one goal and laying on three assists so far this season.

The goal itself, which came in a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest, was an absolute beauty, and although he has gone five league games without a contribution, and didn’t feature against Reading last time out, his talent is unquestionable.

And getting the best out of him over the coming months could be crucial in Leeds’ match towards a return to the Premier League.

James Wilson

Manchester United’s James Wilson was all set to enjoy a loan spell at Derby County last season, only for a serious knee injury back in October to bring that stint to a premature end.

However, the 21-year-old clearly has pedigree in front of goal with goals for United, their Under-23 side, and indeed Brighton, yet he’s highly unlikely to force his way into Jose Mourinho’s first team plans at Old Trafford.

Thus, what with the Englishman building his way back to fitness with five Premier League 2 matches this season, a loan move away could be exactly what he needs to hit top form once again, and Leeds are reportedly willing to offer him that in January.

The Whites are slightly thin on the ground in terms of striking options, and given the games come thick and fast after Christmas, having another excellent option like Wilson would be invaluable.
