The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern were very relieved when Raheem Sterling came to the rescue against Huddersfield over the weekend. It was a very tough game for the Citizens, with the newly-promoted Terriers putting in quite the shift, but Pep Guardiola’s men came out on top in the end – as they often have this season.

The win means that Man City have kept up the pace at the top of the Premier League, and with no sign of them slowing down, it is looking ominous for their rivals for the trophy this season.

However, Guardiola cannot get complacent, and he cannot take their game with Southampton this week lightly. Games are coming thick and fast, and so it would be easy for him to pick the same team and expect more of the same. The reality, though, is that changes are needed when games are this frequent, and so two or more players could find themselves on the bench this time around.

Guardiola must rotate, and so he should drop these 2 Man City players against Southampton – agreed?

 Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus have rotated in and out of the first team for much of the season, and that’s unlikely to change this week.

Gabriel Jesus came on at the weekend and had quite the impact, and though he didn’t score, he had a crucial touch in what turned out to be the winning goal for the Citizens.

In an ideal world, both players would play together, but Pep Guardiola doesn’t seem keen to allow that to happen, and so rotation is likely to continue.

 Fabian Delph

Fabian Delph has had a really good season this term, and he has been a regular, but he looked poor at points against Huddersfield over the weekend.

He’s obviously not a natural defender, and so it’s not a massive surprise to see him struggling, but Pep Guardiola may have to take action.

The Englishman may have been exploited against a more lethal opponent, and so if Guardiola wants to ensure a strong defence, perhaps Delph could do with a night off.
