It was July 23rd 2014, Tottenham fans still didn’t know what to expect from Mauricio Pochettino as he continued to crack on in the summer transfer window after his appointment in May. It was clear that he was after Swansea’s Ben Davies, but when he signed him, the Lilywhites were devastated to hear that Levy had used Gylfi Sigurdsson as a bargaining piece.
The transfers will also see Gylfi Sigurdsson return to the Welsh club where he spent time on loan in 2012 & we wish him well for the future.

The Icelandic midfielder was a great player at Tottenham and was loved by the fans. Now at the age of 29, Sigurdsson is still going strong and is the gem in the Marco Silva’s crown at Everton. He’s become famed for his spectacular goals and his cannon of a right foot in the Premier League and the Tottenham fans were rightly gutted when the news broke that he’d been allowed to leave for the Liberty Stadium.
In the end, it looked like he wouldn’t be missed too much seeing as Christian Eriksen had been signed just 12 months prior to his sale, but even so the fans would have been much happier if he’d been allowed to stay at the club and carry on scoring great goals. In 83 outings for Spurs, the midfielder scored 12 times and had the fans off their feet more times than they can remember. However, they haven’t exactly suffered since his departure.
If anything, Pochettino has only seen the club go from strength to strength since the Everton man left and whilst the supporters were gutted at the time, they had no idea that Dele Alli would soon be coming in at the club and partnering up with the likes of Eriksen and Harry Kane to devastating effect. The fans probably wouldn’t take Sigurdsson back now given his age and the quality of their squad, but back then selling him was deemed a huge mistake.

The Lilywhites were absolutely crushed when Sigurdsson was sold and they’ll just be hoping Pochettino can avoid letting another fan favourite go in the future.
