It hasn’t been the best season for the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern, nor has it been a very good season for many of their players.

There has, undeniably, been growth at Old Trafford this season, but their pursuit, or lack thereof, of the Premier League title has highlighted the gulf in glass between the Red Devils and their rivals Man City.

This summer, then, Jose Mourinho will likely do all he can to try and make that gap slightly less vast, and that’s likely to be done, in large part, through the recruitment of new players.

That process has already begun, according to the Mirror, with Man Utd apparently keen on a move for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred. He’s apparently being viewed as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.

Certainly, Fred is a great player, but our landlord isn’t so sure that he’s the man to replace the almighty Paul Pogba – even if the latter has struggled this season.

Instead, then, perhaps Mourinho should consider 1 of these 2 options…

Jorginho

Currently playing for Napoli, Jorginho has emerged as one of Italy’s best midfielders in recent years.

Able to operate as a more defensive midfielder or further up the field, Jorginho is a combative, strong midfielder that is more than capable of controlling the game.

He’s a fantastic passer of the ball, which – when playing more deeply – allows him to become somewhat of a deep-lying playmaker for Napoli.

Alongside Nemanja Matic, then, he could provide a defensive aid whilst also offering the creative edge that the Red Devils have lacked this season.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

If Man Utd want a more creative option, then Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could be a fantastic choice.

He’s one of Europe’s brightest talents, and at just 23-years-old, he could get even better.

A fantastic passer of the ball, Milinkovic-Savic is fantastic at moving play forward, whilst he’s also comfortable dribbling with the ball at his feet.

He is, in many ways, the complete midfielder, and if Man Utd don’t snap him up, someone else will.
