It’s the transfer story that still hasn’t come to an end.
And with the season just over a week away, the Paul Pogba transfer mill is still ongoing and some fans are becoming a little sick of it.
There are those who feel he should have signed by now and committed to the club and some who believe that the transfer fee is too high and they should look elsewhere.
But alas, the story rumbles on but just in-case the transfer does in-fact fall through, who should United target instead? Are there names that can fill the boots of Paul Pogba or is he a once-in-a-lifetime signing?
There are other quality players available in the market believe it or not, and there are definite alternatives if United don’t get their man.
So with that in mind, here’s THREE players United should definitely sign instead…
Blaise Matuidi

The French midfielder has been linked with a move away from PSG this summer but as of yet, he remains part of the Paris squad.
Grzegorz Krychowiak has arrived to beef up the PSG midfield and with Unai Emery now at the helm, Matuidi’s future remains in doubt. And if the Parisian giants do decide to cash-in on the French international, there would be plenty of suitors, no doubt including Manchester United if the Pogba deal fails to come through.
He offers huge defensive stability sitting in-front of the back four and he is a robust, feisty individual that is not afraid to put himself about. Who needs Paul Pogba?
Mousa Dembele

Perhaps not the name the comes to mind right away, Dembele is an underrated midfielder who has been a vital part of the Spurs team since he arrived in London back in 2012.
Spurs lost just one Premier League game that the Belgian international started last season which came right at the start of the campaign against, you guessed it, Manchester United.
Spurs were the closest competition to Leicester City in the title race last season and in Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs have one of the most highly rated managers in the league.
Dembele would be a massive loss to the Spurs midfield but their loss would be United’s gain. He would be worth a fraction of the price they would pay for Paul Pogba, so is this an option Mourinho should consider?
Toni Kroos

Another midfielder who is at the peak of his career, Toni Kroos is an option in the middle of the park that really hasn’t be considered by any side this summer.
Of course, there would be a big transfer fee involved- Kroos is in the middle of his contract but he’s one of the worlds best, most established central-midfielders.
As we’ve seen during his time at Real Madrid and with the German national side, the German brings a huge amount of quality to the side. His passing is superb and his ability to pass the ball is as good as anyone else in the game right now too.
Why are United focusing too much on Pogba when there is quality like Kroos not too far away as well?
