Further good news could be in the offing for buoyant Man City fans as reports emerge

Manchester City supporters have been making all the noise in the Transfer Tavern this season following their team’s incredible start to the campaign, which got a whole better on Wednesday night with victory over Southampton in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola’s men were tipped by many to go on and win the title this season, and they are certainly living up to expectations having won 13 of their opening 14 league matches, albeit their two most recent successes have arguably been their toughest yet. The Citizens needed an 84th minute winner from Raheem Sterling to see off Huddersfield Town 2-1 last weekend, and the England international had the final say against the Saints as well by curling home a sensational effort in the sixth minute of added time to edge past Mauricio Pellegrino’s spirited side.

Thus, there have been many buoyant Citizens supporters in the Tavern this week, and there may be more good news in the offing if a recent report from The Manchester Evening News is anything to go by, which suggests that they are ready to make a move for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez when the transfer window reopens in January.

The 28-year-old made the move to the Emirates Stadium back in 2014 and has since been an absolute revelation for Arsene Wenger’s side, bagging 77 goals and laying on 45 assists in just 157 appearances for the Gunners, including 30 goals in his most impressive campaign to date last term.

Yet the Chile international sees his contract expire at the Emirates Stadium at the end of the current season, and as such speculation has been building for months regarding his future at the North London giants.

And reports suggest that City are readying a move for the influential attacker in the January window, as other unnamed clubs have reportedly already submitted bids for Sanchez ahead of the winter market.

And given that Guardiola and Sanchez worked particularly well together at Barcelona in the past, it’s a move from which City could seriously reap the rewards.

Landlord’s verdict: Alexis Sanchez was simply magnificent for Arsenal last season, scoring 30 goals and laying on 19 assists in all competitions to help Arsene Wenger’s men to fifth place in the Premier League, as well as the FA Cup title.

But it doesn’t seem to be enough to convince the 28-year-old to stay at the Emirates Stadium, and with his contract up in the summer, the Gunners may have to cash in on the influential forward in January to at least recoup some of the £35 million they spent on him back in 2014.

And Manchester City are one club who have repeatedly been linked with the Chile international, and they are reportedly ready to make a January move for Sanchez given that other unnamed clubs have already stated their intent by making an offer.

And with Pep Guardiola having worked with Sanchez to great success at Barcelona, it’s a move which would sure to excite our resident City fans were it to go through in January.
