Our Leeds United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are pretty enamoured with Garry Monk at the moment with him looking like the man to take them at least close to the Premier League at last.
It’s been a long time since the Whites were last in the top-flight but this season they look like genuine contenders to at least reach the play-offs come May.
It’s anyone’s guess as to what will happen then, though, but you get the feeling that no matter what happens this season the club will want to hold on to Monk for the foreseeable future.
That’s why, then, his comments from his latest press conference will have caused some anxiety amongst the Leeds fan-base with no progress on a new contract with his current deal ending in the summer.
As quoted by The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Lee Sobot on Twitter, Monk revealed:
Monk on his contract situation: "I haven't spoken to the club yet. I am very much focussed on the football." #lufc

Monk: "My contract is until the summer but there is a lot of time between now and the end of the season." #lufc

Certainly, then, whilst this isn’t completely terrible news and an indication he is off there definitely is an air of concern that nothing has been sorted.
Monk has been Leeds’ best manager for some time, it seems, and for a club that has recent history of turmoil and poor decisions, getting this one right is of paramount importance.
