Germans join Man United and Arsenal in transfer pursuit

Diego CostaThe latest speculation in the Football Transfer Tavern is that Borussia Dortmund could offer fresh competition in pursuit of Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa, who has also been targeted by Arsenal and Chelsea, according to The Express.

The Premier League duo have been strongly linked with a move for in-form 25-year-old, with both side’s understood to be searching for a top-quality striker in January.

But Jurgen Klopp’s side could move for the Brazilian-born forward as he searches for a replacement for Bayern Munich bound Robert Lewandowki, who will be announced as a Bayern player in the coming days.

Lewandowski will not join up with the reigning European champions until his contract expires in the summer, but any pre-contract agreement would give time for Dortmund to find a suitable replacement.

They have now reportedly targeted Costa as that man but it is thought that Atletico will be looking for the German side to meet the player’s £34m release clause.

But Chelsea and Arsenal are both believed to be targeting the Madrid man as well.

Jose Mourinho wants  a new centre-forward, with Samuel Eto’o only a stop-gap until the end of the season, while Arsenal want to make signings to offer back-up to Olivier Giroud.
