Glasgow Rangers and the other 41 clubs in Scotland’s top-four divisions may soon be about to receive a huge windfall following recent developments.
Over the last couple of days, it has emerged that businessman James Anderson has made an offer to the SPFL in terms of investment, reportedly without any strings attached, and the governing body have confirmed that the talks between the two parties have been positive. Anderson was brought to the table by Ann Budge, the owner of Hearts, who were recently relegated to the Championship.

In an article from The Daily Record, in which they detail the offer, they say that Sky Sports would have needed to be paid as much as £5.5m after the season was not completed, but they are now in discussions to significantly reduce that sum.

The Gers fans, though, are far from happy with that, and have taken aim at SPFL chief Neil Doncaster over the claims – one fan even called it “gross negligence”. It is perhaps understandable as to why Gers fans are critical of the SPFL, given their recent run-in with the governing body.

And to think Scottish football clubs had an opportunity to have an independent investigation into how the governing body was a shambles at best, and corrupt at worse and decided against an investigation. How they must be regretting that now.

To put these figures into context, the Swedish Allsvenskan – a league with a lower coefficient than the Scottish Prem – has a sponsorship deal with Unibet worth $200m over 12 years. In 7 years Doncaster has brought in roughly £9m in sponsorship and is now handing it out for free.
