Glasgow Rangers midfielder Steven Davis made Northern Ireland history on Monday despite the Green and White Army’s demolition at the hands of Norway.
Davis started against Erling Haaland and co, which was his 119th cap for his country – he now holds the joint-record with Pat Jennings. Unfortunately, the match itself was not one for Davis and his team-mates to remember, as Norway won 5-1 with Haaland and strike partner Alexander Sorloth both scoring twice.

However, although it is not the occasion that the £900,000-valued 35-year-old will have wanted for his record-equalling feat, it is still a special achievement to feature so many times for your country, especially when appearances at international tournaments are few and far between. Northern Ireland’s appearance at Euro 2016 was their first at the finals of a major competition in 30 years.

Davis is at the end of his career and his role at Ibrox is dwindling – he has started just two matches so far this term. However, he will likely want to break Jennings’ record and will want to end his time with the 54-time Scottish champions on a high, so it seems that the former Southampton man still has plenty of offer.
