Glasgow Rangers: Fans rage at article on Fernando Ricksen

Former Glasgow Rangers player Fernando Ricksen is a club legend.

The Dutchman spent six years with the Gers from 2000 to 2006, making over 200 appearances in all competitions for the club, winning seven major trophies during his time at Ibrox, including the Scottish Premiership twice. After leaving the 54-time Scottish champions, Ricksen moved on to Zenit St. Petersburg to finish his career.

Sadly, in 2013, Ricksen revealed that he was a sufferer of motor neurone disease, and that he was terminally ill. He passed away six years later, going down as a club hero during the process.

A biography of his battle with the illness has been put together called The Final Battle, and this has been serialised by The Scottish Sun. On Tuesday, the paper published an article about Ricksen’s antics when using a Stephen Hawking-style computer, with a distasteful headline to boot.

Many Gers supporters are angry with the piece, as they believe it disrespects his memory – one fan even called it “unbelievable”. They have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts, and you can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.

Another day, another negative non article about Rangers. Throw in today’s article in the Glasgow Times about Linfield’s new strip and referring to Rangers 🤷🏻‍♂️ It’s almost as if there’s a company overseeing the narrative of the media in Scotland…
