According to Football Insider, Glasgow Rangers are targetting Sunderland’s Jon McLaughlin this summer.
The Gers are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper after both Jak Alnwick and Wes Foderingham left the club on free transfers recently.

Now, it appears they have McLaughlin on their radar. The Ibrox outfit believe he is capable of providing cover and competition for current number one Allan McGregor.
The Black Cats’ stopper is set to become a free agent shortly with his contract at the Stadium of Light due to expire at the end of June. That said, Sunderland have made a contract offer to him, so it looks likely that there will be a battle for his services.
With the departure of those two aforementioned shot-stoppers, Steven Gerrard is clearly in need of a back-up option. Whilst Vaclav Hladky has been linked in the last few weeks and was even said to be the Gers’ top target, McLaughlin could well prove to be a more astute signing.
He was Phil Parkinson’s first-choice throughout the previous campaign, and conceded just 27 times in 32 League One matches. Only three other goalkeepers managed a higher save percentage ratio than the 32-year-old’s 73.7%, whilst he has also previously performed well in the Premiership – he had a save ratio of 79.2% with Hearts in the Scottish Premiership just two years ago.

He may be fast approaching the end of his career, but at 29, Hladky is no spring chicken himself. £293,000-valued McLaughlin – as per Transfermarkt – could well be an interesting option for Gerrard if he can persuaded to make the move north of the border.
