Glasgow Rangers will be safely in the Scottish Premiership next term, but that will not be the case for Hearts.
The Jam Tarts found themselves in the relegation zone when the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic and, when the campaign was prematurely ended last month, they found themselves demoted to the second tier. Following that decision, Hearts owner Ann Budge pushed for a reconstruction of the league system in an attempt to see them remain in the top flight, but the rest of Scottish football did not agree, with only 16 sides overall backing the reconstruction proposal.

In the immediate aftermath of the result, Hearts released a statement addressing the outcome whilst also revealing that they will now be taking legal action.

Those at the top of @spfl must now go…and as it will be proven! it’s illegal to relegate then it’s illegal to award the title….#handitbackCFC

As a rangers supporter i totally agree with hearts stance. The season should have been voided. No winner’s no losers. But spfl and fairness does not go.

👍👍👍Hearts for taking this step for your own team even though other relegated teams suffered the same fate. I wish you well in your legal fight against the SPFL who have from the start of the initial vote handling (Dundee vote) got it so wrong .May SPFL heads roll. #Integrity
