Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern are expecting their side to go up this season – though it remains to be seen if that is as champions.
Indeed, the Magpies did look good for the title but Brighton, to their credit, have reeled them in again and so with the pair locked on 77 points, things look set to go to the wire.
The Seagulls and Magpies have battled it out all season and, in truth, both deserve to go up which will mean both should aim to bolster their squads in the summer window ahead of a Premier League campaign.
For Newcastle, then, Rafa Benitez could be key and that’s certainly what Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad (via Chronicle Live,) reckons is the case with Dries Mertens.
The Belgian winger has been flying for Napoli but could move to the Magpies upon promotion – something many Newcastle fans on Twitter have been quick to react to.
