Newcastle United supporters were left slighty frustrated in the Transfer Tavern on Sunday after seeing their side twice lose the lead to draw 2-2 with Southampton at St Mary’s, thus failing to record a fourth Premier League victory of the season.

Rafa Benitez’s men went into that encounter on the South Coast having won three of their opening seven league matches, and twice held the lead thanks to goals first from Isaac Hayden and then from Ayoze Perez just after half time. However, Saints striker Manolo Gabbiadini bagged a brace to secure a point for Mauricio Pellegrino’s side, ending a run of three straight home defeats in all competitions, and at the same time preventing the visitors from what would have been their second away victory of the season.

Nonetheless, it has still been an impressive start to the campaign from Benitez’s side, but reinforcements may be needed in January to keep that up going into the second half of the season, especially given they have only managed nine goals in their eight Premier League games.

And one man that could certainly help them out in the goal-scoring department is striker Cenk Tosun, who bagged 20 times in just 33 league games last season for Besiktas to help them seal a second successive Super Lig title.

And with six goals in 11 matches in all competitions this time round as well, the 26-year-old continues to go from strength to strength, and as such has reportedly alerted the likes of Newcastle and indeed Crystal Palace ahead of the January window.

But were the Magpies able to steal a march and get a deal done for the £9.45 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt), here is what their lethal front line could look like come the end of the winter window…

Matt Ritchie

Matt Ritchie was hugely integral in helping Newcastle achieve promotion from the Championship last season, and he has continued to prove his worth this time round as well.

The Scotland international has laid on four assists in eight Premier League appearances for the Magpies this term to help them to three wins in those matches, with all four of his assists coming in that trio of victories.

Ultimately, his set piece delivery and overall crossing ability will be crucial for the North East side this term, and our resident Magpies fans will be hoping that the 28-year-old can keep up his fine form for the entirety of the campaign.

Ayoze Perez

He may have come under-fire from certain sections of the Newcastle support so far this season, but Ayoze Perez answered those critics with a goal in a fine performance at Southampton on Sunday.

The Spaniard had until then failed to net in the Premier League this term but showed great composure to get his initial shot off, and then even better anticipation to react quickest and fire past Fraser Forster from a tricky angle.

However, it has been his all round play that has clearly impressed Benitez, but if he can now add goals and further contributions to that as well, Perez will become a very important player for Newcastle as the season wears on.

Christian Atsu

Christian Atsu made the permanent move to Newcastle during the summer after impressing on loan at the club last term, and he’s made a solid start to this season as well.

The Ghana international has scored one goal and laid on one assist in eight league games for Benitez’s side so far this term, and although he maybe would have liked more contributions by now, the 25-year-old has caused problems with his pace and direct running.

Atsu has certainly showed enough in the early phase of the campaign to suggest that he’ll be vital for the Magpies this term on that left flank, so keeping him fit and firing will be essential for Benitez as the season progresses.

Cenk Tosun

Cenk Tosun scored 20 goals in just 33 league games for Besiktas last season to help them win the Super Lig title for a second successive year, and he has started this term in fine fashion as well.

The 26-year-old has bagged five goals in ten games for the Turkish giants this time round to help them to sixth place in the top-flight and to two victories in the Champions League, goals which have taken his overall Besiktas tally to 55 in just 128 games.

That’s a sensational record and one Newcastle are keeping a very close eye on, and what with Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic struggling for form and fitness in recent times, it’s a player they could do with to help Joselu out up front.

Crystal Palace are also thought to be interested, but the Magpies higher league position may well be enough to lure him to St James’ Park in a move which would significantly benefit the North East giants.
