Going down: Southampton must now make sure these 3 star players get off the wage bill

Southampton fans here in the Tavern are hoping that their side can avoid the drop, as they remain on course for relegation to the Championship.

The Saints have had a season to forget as they remain on course for relegation to the Championship, as Mark Hughes faces an uphill task from here on in to grind out a number of positive results. Although, a few players may already be on their way out of St Mary’s after an appalling season, with many of our local residents wanting to see the back of a number of first-team members.

Indeed, it looks as if Southampton will be gearing up for the Championship in the next campaign, as fellow relegation contenders continue to grind out positive results with the Saints being left in even more trouble. So, a number of players are set to be axed as they prepare for the challenges of next season, and look to forget the woes of the current campaign.

Therefore, here’s a look at THREE stars that Southampton must get off the wage bill…

Nathan Redmond

Nathan Redmond has had a season to forget as he continues to struggle in the Premier League, with many of our local residents wanting to see the back of him in the summer months.

Indeed, the Englishman is still yet to score in the current campaign and has only provided a few assists, as the Saints are really beginning to struggle due to the lack of class that’s been on display thus far.

Therefore, Redmond should be cut off from the wage bill at the end of the season, as he continues to produce negative performances that aren’t helping Southampton’s current league position.

Shane Long

Shane Long has lost his way in the current campaign as he always seems to find himself on the substitutes’ bench, with the likes of Manolo Gabbiadini, Guido Carrillo and Charlie Austin all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Indeed, the 31-year-old has only managed to find the net on one occasion thus far as wasted talent in the side, with a summer exit surely looming after being handed limited minutes in the side.

Therefore, Southampton should cut Shane Long off the wage bill in the summer months, as he’s failed to score goals at crucial times in what’s been a season to forget for the striker.

Fraser Forster

Fraser Forster has been one of the Saints’ biggest problems in the current campaign, as the Englishman’s constant mistakes continues to leave supporters disappointed.

Indeed, Forster has lost his place in-between the sticks to Alex McCarthy as his poor efforts haven’t gone unnoticed, with many of our local residents wanting to see him depart at the end of the current campaign.

Therefore, Southampton must make sure they cut him off from the wage bill in the summer months, as he’s failed to live up to expectations with mistakes being ever-present in his game.
