Liverpool: Grujic set for loan move to Werder Bremen

Marko Grujic in action vs Arsenal

According to German outlet Bild, Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic is set to sign for Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen on loan.

Grujic has spent the last two seasons on loan at Hertha Berlin, but he has made just two appearances this season, both in the EFL Cup.

It doesn’t look like he will be a big part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans moving forward, especially with even more midfield competition following the signing of Thiago, and as such he looks set to join Bremen on a temporary basis.

Grujic was signed for £5.1m in January in 2016, but he has made just 16 appearances for the Reds since that move. He has spent the majority of his time on loan at other clubs, with him spending the second half of the 2017/18 season at Cardiff City before playing last 24 months in Germany.

However, although Klopp does not seem to be ready to use him at Anfield, he certainly came back to Merseyside with a good reputation following his performances in the Bundesliga. He scored nine goals in the league in 51 matches, and his first season at the Olympiastadion was particularly impressive, with him averaging a WhoScored rating of 7.26. That number dropped to 6.94 last term, but that is far from embarrassing, and he certainly made an impression at Hertha – former boss Pal Dardai said he was the best midfielder he had seen at the club in 20 years.

Currently valued at £13.05m by Transfermarkt, Liverpool will be hoping he can put himself in the shop window. Given his previous displays in Germany, that does not seem unlikely.
