The Man City fans have had a mixed few weeks supporting their team…

An early season flourish has been marred over the last month or two, with the Citizens slowly slipping down the table despite topping it early on.

Things certainly aren’t bad at the Etihad, especially considering that the Guardiola-led side are still sitting in 3rd place – but when you consider how dominant they were early on in the season – it is clear that something has gone wrong.

At this point, the Sky Blues look someway off table-toppers Chelsea, and so Pep Guardiola is undoubtedly going to look to bring in a few players in January to help bolster the chances of his team.

Premier League titles are often won and lost in January, and so Guardiola must ensure a couple of deals are done efficiently, and perhaps more importantly, he must ensure that they are done quickly.

With that said, Guardiola must ask the owners to seal these 2 January deals next week…

 Virgil van Dijk

Defensively, Man City have looked poor – and Guardiola needs to find solutions.

One such solution could be Virgil van Dijk, and whilst a host of defenders have been touted with a move in the Transfer Tavern, our landlord thinks that van Dijk would offer the best option.

He is relatively young, yet he is experienced – and his time in the Premier League means that he wouldn’t require an adjustment period.

He could come into the Man City first team straight away and help improve the form of a stuttering John Stones, and that will solve a number of issues for Guardiola.

Guardiola needs to get in quick, as he is sure to be in-demand.

 Julian Weigl

Julian Weigl has been touted in the Transfer Tavern as an option for the future, but he could almost certainly do a job in the present too.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Weigl draws a number of parallels with Barcelona figure Sergio Busquets, and with Man City struggling defensively – he could be absolutely vital.

Fernandinho has performed well, but Weigl would offer an extra layer of defence for Guardiola, allowing players like De Bruyne and Navas to stick to what they do best in the final third of the pitch.
