Today, the transfer market was rocked by news that Arsenal defender William Gallas could be trading the red of Arsenal for the white of Tottenham. While rumours of Michael Dawson’s exit remain firmly lodged in cool water, the fitness of Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate remain urgent issues in need of a solution.
Harry Redknapp now has the trump card of almost guaranteed Champions League football, following their pairing with Swiss Premier League runners up BSC Young Boys, and as his future with Arsenal has remained a debatable issue for a while now, Gallas could well be off to their rivals.
There can be no denying that despite his advancing years, Gallas would be a valuable asset to Harry Redknapp’s team as they look to establish themselves among Europe’s elite. These negotiations are not just because of Tottenham’s defensive woes, but paradoxically, Gallas has hit some goals of great industry and importance over the years, despite full-backs being typecast as terrible shots – one memorable strike was a 25 yard curler in his Chelsea days, ironically against Spurs in injury time, to win the derby.
Apart from his offerings all over the pitch, Gallas has the European experience needed to get Tottenham through testing times in the Champions League, where any defensive naiveties are mercilessly punished. This knowledge of European attacking formations combined with an almost unrivaled passion (which sometimes boils over in ugly fashion) could be the making of Tottenham, especially when away goals begin to count for something.
Ultimately, the move for Gallas shows great shrewdness, since Redknapp is able to utilise Arsene Wenger’s alleged weakness of not being willing to play “older” players, seen by some as a reason why they have been without silverware for five years.
If, this time tomorrow, Gallas is holding a Tottenham scarf over his head with Redknapp and chairman Daniel Levy grinning by his side, then his live-on-Sky return to the Emirates Stadium on November 21st could make for one of the juiciest Premier League clashes the world has ever seen.
This can only mean a dull 0-0 affair for the under worked scoreboard.

Hmmm. Really…
Spurs to sell Dawson and buy Gallas? Do you even read what you write? Not a quote or anything to back up your ‘talks’ claim. If Gallas is holding up a Spurs shirt this time tomorrow I’ll come back and apologise. Don’t hold your breath.
Ha, Wenger will play older players IF they accept he won’t offer them any more than a 1 year contract. Gallas is a greedy troublemaker and Arsenal are glad to see the back of him, would be a good signing for Spurs tho.
Footynews, what do you mean “would be”?!
Jim dent certainly is on crack, studid goon
Nah, it’s me…
Some very bitter folk using the Internet this afternoon and some sharing the same computer.
This Gallas story was first broached probably about a week ago on Spurs Odyssey and frankly has hit every other half decent Spurs forum since.
Oh and BOF, you still trawling the Internet looking for a home, eh? Nobody here said he would be in a Spurs shirt tomorrow. I do hope you didn’t do all your dinner money at the bookies.
The Dawson to Arsenal tale (garbage I would imagine) was being heavily flogged on an Arsenal site yesterday. The author of this piece just happened to mention it. Clearly he didn’t realise that the under 5’s amongst you would begin whining and bleating as a result.
Speaking of results, those that were incapable of controlling themselves when leaving comments have permanently lost the ability to do so.
Escapini bites back! It’s been coming….
Now play nice the rest of you – why not all remember it’s just an opinions games?
I note that the Evening Standard are running the same piece. I shall check the news tonight to see if their offices are firebombed as a result..
Yeah nice try escapini, just because I said this site needs to concentrate on bringing quality news instead of publishing rubbish to score hits. Truth Hurts does it? if it does i expect you to delete this comment too.
jowar you write as if we are having a conversation. Strange. Anyway…the only stuff that gets deleted is that which simply ain’t worth reading. The Gallas tale is rubbish, eh? Well I sincerely hope you also complain to everyone else running it. Or is it your aim to look daft exclusively on this site?
Haha this is funny. However I would take Gallas. He is a good defender and offers experience cover. I would have to say that ‘Arry’s man-management skills are far better than Wenger so we might actually get a mellower Gallas.
I know he is a former Ar5ena1 player but he came from Chelsea and really had a fractious time there. Outside that he performances were good and only ended up with the Gooners because Cole wanted out after the tap-up incident.
Let’s be realistic, we really are not going to find an experienced central defender at this stage without having to pay silly money for. He is free and has experience at the highest level; although he is slightly mental. Then again, what Frenchman isn’t these days?
Then again, what Frenchman isn’t these days?
Hahahaha. Very good. Of course if I’d written that I’d have be suspended from a lampost by piano wire…
