Celtic’s charge to the Scottish Premier League title was wrapped up last weekend and it’s testament to the superb job that’s been done by Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead this season.

Bhoys fans here in the Tavern have been extremely impressed by some of things they’ve seen from their side at times this season and who can blame them, they’ve won the league with absolute ease if the truth be told.

But a blip in this season would have been their poor Champions League campaign at the start of the season, which saw them struggle in the early rounds to be eventually knocked out in the group stages, having finished bottom of their group.

And when things have gone wrong for Rodgers’ side this campaign, there have been a handful of players that almost always are singled out for criticism.

So with that in mind and after a good old chat with our Celtic-mad barman, here’s the TWO Bhoys men we think are always seen as scapegoats at Parkhead…

Emilio Izaguirre

It’s been a tough old season for club veteran Emilio Izaguirre, who has taken a real backseat role thanks to the emergence of young Kieran Tierney, who has been absolutely fantastic for the Bhoys all-season long.

But earlier on this season when he was getting minutes, he wasn’t at all at his best and the time for him to leave the club has almost come and gone.

It’s easy to find a scapegoat when the team play very well almost every week and that job certainly went to Izaguirre earlier on this campaign.

Efe Ambrose

Erik Sviatchenko and Jozo Šimunović have held down the centre-back spots for most of the campaign and have done a decent job, leaving players like Efe Ambrose cast aside on the sidelines.

And there’s reason for players like Ambrose to be left on the bench week-in, week-out, especially after the horrific 1-0 defeat to the Lincoln Red Imps in the earlier rounds of the Champions League qualifiers.

Ambrose had an absolute shocker against the part-time Gibriltans and was made scapegoat for the embarrassing loss and for him, that tag has stuck ever since.
