The Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern have bee reacting to a story from Neil Ashton in The Sun that claims Jose Mourinho’s United eyeing up a move for Jack Grealish. Yes, you read that right, with Fred reportedly coming to Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk, the Red Devils are supposedly looking to the future as they aim to bring in Villa’s star man this summer.

Whilst it’s the sort of move that will be criticised by fans of both clubs, it could actually be a move that makes a lot of sense. Aston Villa piled a lot of resources into winning promotion to the Premier League this season but fell up short in the final challenge, losing 1-0 to Fulham at Wembley on Saturday’s play-off final. However, if Grealish is sold for a pretty penny it could help the Birmingham club ease their financial pain and look to another promotion chasing season.
On the Manchester United side of things, Anthony Martial could be leaving Old Trafford this summer and Michael Carrick has retired, leaving positions on the wing and in midfield open to be filled. The 22-year-old Grealish is certainly not the finished article, although he’s certainly got talent. On Saturday everything good for Villa came through the youngster and he was unlucky not to be on the winning side.
