West Ham had some great highs in 2016, the last game at the Boleyn Ground beating Manchester United 3-2, springs to mind for most of our Hammers faithful here at the Transfer Tavern.

Still, the latter stages of 2016 haven’t been the best for Slaven Bilic’s men and the punters here will be hoping for some changes come 2017!

The East Londoners haven’t been the most clinical in front of goal and it’s clear that they need to bring in a new striker with the imminent departure of Simone Zaza, who hasn’t lived up to the hype having only signed on loan in the summer.

With Zaza and the likes of Jonathan Calleri and Sofiane Feghouli not working out as expected, it is thought that the club will look to recruit from within the Premier League after how horrifically wrong recruiting from abroad went.

With the Irons not hitting the heights they were expected to this season, it’ll be hard to lure in a world-class forward that they may have wished for, but that for sure doesn’t mean they can’t bring in the quality.

With that, we take a look at how Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson, who has been targeted by the club in the media and certainly represents someone who could make a big difference to Bilic’s sides fortunes.

So, if they were to buy Wilson in January, here is how we think they may line-up.

GK: DARREN RANDOLPH

The Irish shot-stopper has been superb since coming in to the side for an under performing Adrian.

The 29-year-old has been around the block a bit playing in England and Scotland but finally looks settled as the Hammers number one shot stopper.

RWB: EDMILSON FERNANDES

In the right-back position, the Hammers lack an out and out right-back and so far they’ve used Michail Antonio there as well as, at times, Edmilson Fernandes, who looks comfortable wherever he plays on the pitch!

With some changes needed, the young Swiss versatile player must get more time on the field.

CB: WINSTON REID

The New Zealand International is no stranger to a scrap at West Ham, having been through a number of relegation battles and promotion pushes!

He could be vital in the turn around for the Hammers in 2017.

CB: ANGELO OGBONNA

The former Juve man has been a solid defender in his second season for the Irons.

Having not made the best of starts and in fact finding himself benched at times for James Collins; the Italian finally looks to have cemented his place in the starting XI.

His experiences at the very top should help West Ham finish the season better than they’ve started it.

CB: CHEIKOU KOUYATE

The big Senegalese midfielder-cum-defender fits in perfectly in this role as he can edge closer to the midfield when required, but fills in at the back alongside Ogbonna and Reid perfectly.

The big man has become a favourite at the club and rightly so, he’s been an asset to the Irons since his arrival from Anderlecht.

LWB: AARON CRESSWELL

Cresswell has been superb for West Ham since his arrival and when he was sidelined the Hammers really struggled to fill his position.

It’s clear they need the 27-year-old on the pitch and if they are to really climb the table and have a strong finish then he’ll be needed on the pitch.

CDM: MARK NOBLE

The West Ham captain hasn’t had the best time of it this season and many feel that he should be dropped from the team.

But if anyone knows the club and what it means to the fans that they remain in the hunt for survival or even Europa League then it’s Mark Noble!

Mr West Ham himself has nothing but the club in his heart and he’ll be vital for the Hammers in the tail end of the season.

RW: MICHAIL ANTONIO

Arguably the best player for the Hammers so far this season.

No matter where he plays on the field he proves to be vital for his side, whether it’s getting back and defending or scoring a goal, Antonio always comes good.

The England man will be vital for West Ham in 2017 and their revival back to life.

LW: DIMITRI PAYET

There is no denying that Payet is a class act and that the Irons are lucky they’ve kept hold of him, and with speculation around his future, the club are certain he will still be a West Ham player for the foreseeable future.

But the French international hasn’t been at his best this season, only adding to the problems at the London Stadium.

Still, he’s provided so many chances for the strikers or players around him but they’ve just not taken it.

With Wilson, he could have that striker who’s instinct is just to hit the back of the net!

CF: ANDY CARROLL

The big Geordie is finally back on the pitch much to the delight of the Hammers faithful here at the Tavern, the big striker can be vital when fit!

He just needs to try and maintain his fitness and he can be the key for West Ham in scoring very important goals, which is much needed right now.

With Wilson just in front of him, they could play off each other so well and form a formidable partnership!

ST: CALLUM WILSON

The Bournemouth man could be the answer for West Ham and provide some much-needed goals for Bilic’s side.

The 24-year-old would offer a threat much different to Carroll and with his experiences in the Premier League already he won’t need time to adapt.

Unlike those who came in from abroad in the summer who just haven’t settled or adapted to life in the Premier League, the Cherries ace would be a quick-fire remedy.

Bilic has to go out and get Wilson at any cost to help his side move up the table!
