The Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been slating Swiss right-back Gaetano Berardi after his straight red card against Sunderland on Saturday has ruled him out for the rest of the season. The combative full-back now faces a five-game ban, ruling him out for the rest of Leeds’ season, and the fans wouldn’t be fussed if Saturday was his last appearance for the club. Leeds drew 1-1 with 23rd placed Sunderland at Elland Road on Saturday as they took another step towards a meaningless mid-table spot. Sunderland have been in dire form and the Yorkshire club were expected to take all three points from them as they at least try to gain some momentum going into the last couple of months of the season. It wasn’t to be though as Pablo Hernandez’ equaliser cancelled out Paddy McNair’s opener to share the spoils.
Sunderland’s Callum McManaman felt the full force of Leeds United in the fixture, as he was on the wrong end of Berardi’s horror challenge that earned him his third Championship dismissal. Berardi was previously shown red for a headbutt in Leeds 3-0 win over Bristol City last year and for two bookable offences in their 4-1 loss to Cardiff in February. The Swiss’ most recent red will take his suspension tally to no less than ten games for the season as Leeds continue to drift into a ninth straight season in the second-tier.

Most red cards are mis timed attempts to get the ball, Phil. V few have intent to injure another player. Tackling two footed, off ground is a red every time and he knows that. No excuse for it. We could've sneaked a win, finished hanging on. He's a liability.
