Huddersfield Town Record Transfers

Huddersfield Town have never been a football club to spend big and splash out the cash on high profile players. This was the case until they reached the reformed Premier League for the first time in their history ahead of the 2017-18 season.

Up until their promotion to the top flight, their highest transfer arrival fee was £1.98m for Christopher Schindler in 2016-17. Schindler is now the 16th top transfer record for the Terriers and his fee was broken multiple times. The Terriers recruited young centre-back, Terrence Kongolo from Ligue 1 side, Monaco at the start of the 2018-19 season. Kongolo joined for an incredible record fee of £18m, smashing Steve Mounie’s £11.70m fee the season before. Mounie Joined from Ligue 1 side, Montpellier at the start of 2017-18, and former teammate, Isaac Mbenza followed the centre-forwards in the summer of 2019-20 for £11.25m.

The Terriers have built up a friendly business relationship with Ligue 1 clubs, especially Monaco and Montpellier. Left-winger, Adama Diakhaby arrived with Kongolo in 2018-19 for an additional £9m.

Duo, Tom Ince and Aaron Mooy, joined in 2017-18 each for £8.19m, and English attacking midfielder Alex Pritchard was another addition to their new Premier League squad, arriving from Norwich for over £11m. On the other hand, Huddersfield have definitely spent more than they have received from departing transfers. Outgoing player transfer fees have been relatively low and there are only a handful which have been sold for £1-5m.

Only five footballers have been sold for over £5m, starting with Aaron Mooy’s £5.40m move to Brighton after the Terriers were relegated in 2018-19. Along with the New Zealand international, Danish central-midfielder Philip Billing, caught the eye of Bournemouth after they managed to stay up in the league.

Billing joined Bournemouth for a massive £14.85m fee to break Tom Ince’s £10m fee the season before. Jordan Rhodes was also notably sold to Blackburn back in 2012-13 for a respectable £9m.

Famous Huddersfield Town Transfers

One of the most memorable transfers at the time was Terriers legend Andy Booth who was a youth academy graduate of the club back in 1992. Booth famously was sold to Sheffield Wednesday in 1996 for a club-record transfer fee of £3.5m which was a lot back then.

He is definitely one of the most iconic players to wear a Town shirt, and he scored 150 goals for the club in total.
