Arsenal fans are rolling their eyes and shaking their heads here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Metro report that they will miss out on Sami Khedira – and all because of his wages.
The Real Madrid midfielder is out of contract in the summer and with no signs of a new one on the horizon, the German is free to talk to other clubs.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea have been heavily linked with a swoop for the German World Cup winner but according to respected Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, they will be missing out.
Balague claims Bayern Munich have won the race for the Los Blancos star who is unwilling to negotiate on his wage demands which are thought to be in the region of £150,000-a-week.
Now as one of our punters notes, considering the money Arsene Wenger is willing to pay the likes of Mikel Arteta who signed a new deal recently, we cannot fathom why he would not shell out on someone as good as Khedira and a player who has proven they can do it at the very top level.
The only hope left for the Gunners is that they will sign Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin come the summer although with Wenger around, you never quite know!
