The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern never truly enjoy a transfer window. Indeed, our punters clad in black and white have had to endure all too many frustrating summers while under the ownership of Mike Ashley to get excited, despite staying up with relative ease in the campaign just gone.
So, they’re not exactly thrilled when what little rumours emerge seem to tout them with fairly underwhelming signings. Well, the Daily Mail credit the Toon Army with an interest in West Bromwich Albion forward, Solomon Rondon, who the Baggies reportedly expect to lose this summer.
Newcastle have lacked reliable strikers in recent seasons. Indeed, it seems strange for a club synonymous with the great Alan Shearer to struggle up front, though the January signing of Islam Slimani failed to properly make up for a lacklustre attack that already included Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dwight Gayle.
With that in mind, Rondon barely seems like a huge upgrade (especially considering recent links with Marcus Rashford) on their current options and here’s a closer look at the reaction online.
Rondon? No thanks #nufc

No he's no better than Silmani when we had him on loan.

I don't know if spending £16M on Rondon would be the right move, he doesn't score many goals. I still think Abraham would be a better fit, maybe for less money. & Rashford would be a dream signing. #nufc
