‘I sense trouble’, ‘Don’t waste my time’ – Chelsea fans slam 29-year-old ahead of clash with Roma

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to their return to the Champions League on Wednesday evening…

Whilst the Premier League hasn’t been going too well for Chelsea, the Champions League certainly has – with the Blues currently leading their group with a 100% record. A dominant win on the opening day against Qarabag was followed by a last-gasp win against Atletico Madrid in Spain, leaving the Blues in a very good position. Indeed, it has left the fans in the pub ordering another drink in the pub in celebration, and they’re expecting to crack the champagne out on Wednesday evening.

Whilst the Champions League campaign is going well, lessons are certainly being learned by the Premier League struggle that Chelsea are currently suffering through, and one player that has earned a lot of criticism is Willian. The Brazilian has really struggled over the last few weeks, and there have been calls in the pub for him to be dropped against Roma.

This is an opinion that is shared by the Chelsea fans on Twitter, with supporters taking to the social media site with one simple message: Willian must not play against Roma. Gary Cahill wasn’t void of criticism either, with the Englishman often being drawn into the debate too. Whether you agree or disagree with the Chelsea faithful, they’re certainly a passionate bunch.

Landlord’s Verdict

In truth, it’s really hard to disagree with Chelsea fans on this one.

Willian can’t keep riding the wave of the 2015/16 season, a campaign in which he was Chelsea’s Player Of The Year. His performances then were incredible, of course, but he needs to start replicating that.

You can’t consistently struggle if you want to play for Europe’s best, and the Brazilian has really failed to delight my punters for the last few months.

Chelsea’s lack of depth means that he will inevitably get another chance in the future, but if he continues to flounder, he could find himself replaced in January. One thing seems almost certain: Pedro will start against Roma, if Conte values merit, and Willian may struggle to get into the side over the coming weeks.
