A user on Reddit has claimed that a friend of theirs has found a copy of the contract that their grandfather signed when he joined Manchester United in 1965 – and the details included make for good reading.
Sadly, Pat Dunne, the player on the contract, passed away in 2015 – but the Irish goalkeeper had quite the career.
Dunne made 45 appearances between 1964 and 1967 for the Red Devils as part of a career that stretched over 20 years.
During his spell in Manchester, he won a league title with the club, before he left Manchester two years later.
Incredibly, despite being a goalkeeper – Dunne managed to bag 2 goals during his career! Our landlord is very impressed with that!
The image, shown below, displays his wages – and he was paid just £35 per week. A user in the comments has suggested that, adjusted for inflation, that is around £611 per week – which compared to today is still a paltry sum!
When you consider that Paul Pogba is reportedly on £220,000 per week – it’s hard to deny the claims from the older punters in the Tavern that claim that the “game’s gone mad”.
What would Pogba think of this?!
