Arsenal were dealt a huge blow just before the international break after Danny Welbeck broke his ankle in a Europa League clash with Sporting Lisbon.
The 27-year-old is now expected to miss the rest of the season, which will likely give manager Unai Emery a selection headache later down the line.
In this current campaign, Welbeck has been acting as cover for Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, coming in for either one of the two in cup competitions where he has been able to make a good impression with the goals he has managed to score.
But with the England international sidelined, Emery will now have to turn elsewhere when wanting to give Aubameyang and Lacazette rests. And while the January transfer window will present the Arsenal boss with the opportunity to do just that, he may already have the solution to the predicament he finds himself in thanks to Eddie Nketiah.
Nketiah, of course, burst on to the scene last season when his double against Norwich City in the Carabao Cup turned the game around and took Arsenal into the quarter-finals of the competition.
Genuine chances have since been limited for Nketiah, but the 19-year-old certainly has the ability to come in and make a similar impact.
In and around the box, the England U21 international is extremely dangerous, something that is evident from his goal-scoring record at youth level. However, Nketiah is much more than just a mere poacher with his pace and ability to dribble past defenders making him a forward who can be effective outside of the area as well as in it.
Considering all of that, Emery really should consider giving the Arsenal youth product a more prominent role in Welbeck’s absence.
