Introducing: The one Newcastle player likely to suffer as Almiron impresses

Miguel Almiron made his Newcastle United debut last night in a 1-1 Premier League draw away at Wolves following his record move to the Tyneside club.

And given the ability of the 25-year-old, alongside how much money was spent on him, it is only a matter of time before he becomes a regular starter in Rafael Benitez’s side, which could spell bad news for an individual such as Christian Atsu.

Atsu has featured frequently of late, coming into Newcastle’s team to help pack their midfield in a move that has been clever on Benitez’s part.

The shape the Spaniard is currently deploying his starting XI in has looked compact and sturdy with the defensive work-rate Atsu has been providing only adding to that.

However, on the counter-attack, the Newcastle winger has offered very little, making his spot in the team vulnerable to Almiron’s arrival.

In 19 Premier League appearances this season, Atsu has failed to register a single goal or assist, something which Almiron will be expected to do and looks more than capable of doing.

Outside of Atsu, Newcastle have been void of creativity in general, hence Benitez’s craving for a No.10 type player like Almiron to be signed last month.

The Paraguay international should be able to fix that at what could be at Atsu’s expense.
