Ipswich enjoyed a comfortable 4-0 win over Gillingham in their EFL Trophy meeting at Portman Road last night, with the final score gleefully shared by the club’s Twitter account @IpswichTown.

Paul Lambert’s side were two goals to the good inside 21 minutes as Emyr Huws and Jordan Roberts struck early to put the hosts in a commanding position. [via eadt.co.uk]
Any realistic hopes of a Gillingham comeback were extinguished on the hour mark when the unlucky Mikael Mandron deflected an Ipswich corner into his own net to widen the gap between the teams. [via eadt.co.uk]
The coup de grace was applied in the final five minutes by Will Keane, who coolly dispatched the ball beyond Joe Walsh to wrap up the scoring. [via eadt.co.uk]
The Tractor Boys now have two wins from two in the EFL Trophy and sit top of the group, having also defeated Tottenham’s under-21 side in early September, and with the top two in each group advancing to the knockout stage, they have already ensured their progression ahead of their final group game against Colchester.
While the final at Wembley may be some bit away yet, these Ipswich fans on Twitter greatly enjoyed the team’s display at Portman Road last night and some are optimistic about going the distance in the tournament:
