Arsenal reportedly still want to sign Real Valladolid defender Ivan Fresneda this summer, after they ‘agreed terms’ with him in the January transfer window.
The Lowdown: ‘Agreed terms’
Arsenal reportedly ‘agreed terms‘ with Fresneda over a deal in January, although so did Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
It was expected that he would cost €15m (£13.3m) and be loaned back to Valladolid for the rest of the season, but a deal never materialised in the end.
The Latest: Fresneda still wanted
As per Football Insider, Fresneda is still ‘wanted’ by the Gunners ahead of this summer’s transfer window, after he ‘nearly joined’ them in January.
However, Dortmund are also still thought to be keen, while both Manchester United and Juventus are also thought to be interested in his signature.
The Verdict: One for the future
Mikel Arteta‘s team are already well-covered in the right-back area, with both Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu able to play there, while Cedric is set to return to the club at the end of the season after his loan spell at Fulham.
At 18 years of age, Fresneda would be one for the future in terms of potentially breaking into the first team.
The Spaniard is already playing fairly regularly at Valladolid, having made a total of 12 appearances in all competitions so far this campaign, and is thought of very highly.
Journalist and La Liga presenter Juan Arroita has lauded him for his ‘beastly‘ ability to maraud forward and put in dangerous crosses, while Matt Clark of La Liga Lowdown says that he has been a ‘revelation’ in La Liga, and is a ‘remarkably complete’ full-back for his age.
Nonetheless, Fresneda could come in to first shadow the likes of White and Tomiyasu, eventually making the right-back position his own as he continues his development.
