Wolverhampton Wanderers are likely to make a move for Newcastle United centre-back Jamaal Lascelles in the summer, according to a new report.
The Lowdown: Lascelles eyed
The Newcastle defender was linked with a move to Wolves during the January transfer window, however Julen Lopetegui instead opted to sign Craig Dawson to bolster the centre-back area, who joined from West Ham United in a £3.3m deal.
However, with Max Kilman now being touted for a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, Lopetegui may have to bring in a replacement, and Lascelles looks like he will be available…
The Latest: Move still possible
As per a report from the Northern Echo, the Magpies are willing to listen to offers for their club captain at the end of the season, as they are expected to bring in a new centre-back.
That opens the door for the 29-year-old to move to Molineux, with Wolves named as likely potential bidders, as they are known to have scouted him in the past, although Nottingham Forest could also be in the mix.
The Verdict: Get it done?
Lauded as ‘absolutely superb’ by Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, the 6 foot 2 titan excels in his duties at the back, ranking in the 95th percentile for clearances per 90 in the past year compared to other defenders, while he also places in the 87th percentile for aerials won.
Both of these figures are higher than the amount recorded by Kilman in the same timeframe, highlighting that he would be a solid replacement for the 25-year-old, should he depart at the end of the season.
Lascelles has not featured regularly in the Premier League, making a total of just four appearances this term, but given that the Magpies are in contention to qualify for the Champions League, that should be no real surprise, and he would still be a fantastic signing for Wolves.
