Liverpool’s squad is filled with quality, and the midfield, in particular, has seen some tremendous improvement over the last few years.
With the captures of Naby Keita and Fabinho over the summer, there was expected to be a shakeup in the Liverpool midfield, and that has, to a point, happened.
Both Keita and Fabinho have played a decent amount of football this season, and long-term, it’s hard to see the pair settling for anything less than a regular starting berth.
That third player in the midfield, though, still is uncertain. A number of individuals could play, from Xherdan Shaqiri to James Milner to Gini Wijnaldum, but the player that is perhaps best suited to the role is Jordan Henderson.
Alongside Fabinho and Keita, he could be the perfect complimentary player to finish out this midfield.
In this team, Fabinho would likely sit at the bottom of the midfield. He’s a brilliant holding player, and he’s able to control games with his incredible positioning and defensive acumen. The Brazilian’s tackling is brilliant, whilst his range of short passing also allows him to constantly move play forward. Against smaller sides, he has less to do, but on big nights, there is nobody better to be shielding the defence and keep play ticking on.
Naby Keita is another new addition, and though his start to life in England has been slow, his talent is clear for all to see. He’s an ideal box-to-box ball-winning midfielder, a role in which he’s able to make use of his energy and tackling ability. He’s an aggressive player, and that means that he’s always involved in play and he’s always eager to make some magic happen. He can make an impact at both ends of the field, and the Guinean can serve as the ideal balance between attack and defence.
Jordan Henderson, though a figure that divides fans, perfectly encapsulates the Jurgen Klopp philosophy. He’s a hard-pressing midfielder with bags of energy and dedication. Always eager to make an impact, the Englishman doesn’t settle for anything less than 100%, and he is so influential whenever he’s on the field. He’s also arguably got more technical ability than Fabinho and Keita, given his ability to spray the ball forward and deliver inch-perfect passes. Not to mention, as the captain of this team, he’s able to have a tremendous impact on all of the players on the field.
Surely Henderson has done enough to earn his spot in this midfield?
