Journalist Luke Hatfield has told The Transfer Tavern that Aston Villa still have high hopes for Brazilian striker Wesley.
The 24-year-old made the club-record switch to Villa Park following an impressive goalscoring record in Belgium for Club Brugge two years ago.

However, a serious knee problem has overshadowed Wesley’s short say in the Midlands, restricting him to just 25 games in all competitions.
Wesley had initially made a bright start to his Villa career, scoring four goals in his opening eight Premier League outings, including one in a 3-2 defeat at Arsenal.

However, despite notching once more during the 2019-2020 campaign, the striker suffered an ACL problem in that very game against Burnley and would spend 15 months on the sidelines – only returning to make three substitute appearances last term.
Hatfield suggested that Wesley could move out on loan this season, but told The Transfer Tavern that he still has a future at Villa Park:
“I think a season on loan could be really beneficial for Wesley. I don’t think Villa are ready to give up on him and given they’ve got Watkins and Ings, it’s probably a case of him needing to play football week in week out.”
