The Manchester United supporters here in the Football Transfer Tavern were mightily impressed with last weekend’s 2-0 win over league leaders Chelsea at Old Trafford, with the celebrations going on until the early hours of Monday morning in the landlord’s function room.

It was a performance that resembled the famous United teams of old and it went a long way to showing the club’s ardent supporters that the Red Devils are on their way back to greatness.

The summer will represent a big transfer window for Manchester United and it looks likely that Jose Mourinho will splash the cash on a series of stellar signings once more.

In order to secure deals for such world class talent it seems probable that the club will be forced to offload some of the lesser talented members of the squad to balance the books.

Our landlord pours himself a pint from the bar and looks at three potential outgoing players; One who might be kept on by the club, one who will definitely depart and another who could perhaps serve a purpose out on loan next season.

Keep – Ashley Young

The winger has been converted in more of a wing-back under Jose Mourinho and his performance in last week’s win over Chelsea did enough to suggest that the energetic performer could yet have a future at the club.

Okay, so if United are to become a real force domestically and on the continent then they are going to need better quality than Young.

That said one Red Devils supporter is sat waiting for the Sunday night karaoke to begin and he says he would have no problems at all if the ex-Aston Villa man was part of the squad next season.

Axe – Marouane Fellaini

It is remarkable that the former Everton man recently surpassed the 100 appearance mark at Old Trafford, especially considering that he seems to have endured endless criticism since his arrival at the club.

Fellaini will surely be sold during the summer months to make way for better players and one fan who is playing on the fruit machine in the Tavern believes his departure cannot come soon.

Loan – Timothy Fosu-Mensah

The United youngster has seen his progress stall somewhat during the current campaign and a loan move looks the best thing for the 19-year-old next season.

One United supporter is sat chilling here in the Tavern and he believes that the club’s youngsters should be given more of a chance in the first-team, although he does concede that he would rather them go out on loan than learn nothing player development squad football all season.
