Ronald Koeman, as quoted by The Guardian, was pulling no punches in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Arsenal game tonight with our resident Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern hoping for an upturn in fortunes.
The Toffees have been in dire form of late with their early season successes now a long distant memory. The Blues have seen a number of draws and losses, since, with their latest failure coming away at Watford at the weekend.
Things aren’t going to get any easier, though, as they welcome an in-form Arsenal team to Goodison Park and ahead of that match tonight, Koeman gave a pretty frank assessment of what needs to be improved.
The former Barcelona defender said:
“The problem is now, we have to solve the problem now and we will see if we will fix it.
“We need more balance in the team between individual qualities, football qualities and also physically and mentally. That is what we need to fix but that is not done in one day.
“What does it help if I talk about January or I talk about the summer? What helps the problem right now? That is trying to get the balance of the 11 that start. That is what I need to fix.”
Clearly for Koeman, then, the January window will have to wait with him determined to fix the club’s issues before then.
Whether he can or not in time for the game against Arsenal tonight is really up for debate whilst our landlord reckons he seriously needs to find a solution fast or mid-table mediocrity beckons this season.
He does think, however, that with the new found financial strength the club has they will be able to do some good business in January and that may just save the Dutchman’s bacon for now..
