Lafferty and Flanagan must silence their critics

Rangers secured a vital three points against Aberdeen last time out in the Scottish Premiership, but they did lose Alfredo Morelos in the second half as he was given his marching orders.

The Light Blues have been simply sensational in recent times as they continue to build up ahead of steam under Steven Gerrard, with a Scottish Cup match next on the agenda.

Indeed, Rangers will travel to Rugby Park to face Kilmarnock in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup today. The opposition managed to get the better of the Gers in the Scottish Premiership last month, so Gerrard will be desperate to get revenge by ruining Killie’s silverware chances.

But, a couple of the club’s first-team members haven’t exactly been at their best this season, so today’s match will provide them with the perfect opportunity to silence their critics.

KYLE LAFFERTY

The forward has struggled to work his way into proceedings in the Scottish Premiership as the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe have been preferred. And, it’s safe to say that he hasn’t been able to make the most of his opportunities in the side, with his last league goal coming back in September of last year.

However, Kyle Lafferty managed to find the back of the net against Cowdenbeath in the last round of the Scottish Cup, so Gerrard may turn to the Northern Ireland international later on today.

JON FLANAGAN

Jon Flanagan has been a spectator in recent times as the likes of James Tavernier and Borna Barisic continue to get the nod at right and left-back. Sadly, the Englishman hasn’t always looked confident in possession and his decision-making has let him down at times.

So, today is the perfect opportunity for him to showcase his talents as it doesn’t look as if he’ll secure many minutes in the league from here on in unless something changes.
