Leeds United saw themselves knocked off of top spot in the Sky Bet Championship on Sunday afternoon, as Preston overtook them with a win over Charlton Athletic.
Indeed, the nature of the Sky Bet Championship this season has meant that Preston are also no longer on top spot, with West Brom taking over on Monday night, and it’s clear the second-tier race is closer than ever this year.
Leeds will be confident that they can challenge for the duration of the campaign, though, with Marcelo Bielsa now possessing that extra bit of knowledge of the English game this time around.
The January transfer window could well be pivotal this year, too, and Leeds fans will be hoping that they can strengthen their squad and get over the line, at last, into the Premier League.
Fans on Twitter have been dreaming about having Romaine Sawyers in the side, meanwhile, with him running the show last night for the Baggies against Stoke.
Let’s look at what some of them have said on Twitter in relation to the former Brentford man:
Imagining a midfield three of Phillips, Sawyers and Eze. We’d be up by February #Lufc #LeedsUnited

Have huge player envy for Romaine Sawyers. Would have been an unbelievable signing for Leeds. Been instrumental for West Brom so far, and will be in the running for Championship player of the year at this rate. https://t.co/0BAk1O5CeS

Not even 3 million bob. One more midfielder in the mix for us would make such a difference, especially a controlling 8 like him so when there's no Forshaw, you're still set.

I’ve never understood why we didn’t go for a straight swap with Pontus. That would have been a very fair deal for both clubs.
