Many Leeds United fans have reacted after hearing the tragic news that former player Norman Hunter has passed away.
Football’s current standstill due to the pandemic has affected many, and Leeds fans have now been informed of the sad news that Hunter has fallen victim to the disease.
Hunter, who played at Elland Road between 1962 and 1976, had been in hospital for some time having been severely unwell, and Leeds had issued an update on his health earlier this week, passing on a message from the 76-year-old’s family, who thanked fans for their recent messages of support.
Thanking fans and NHS staff for their care of Hunter, the former defender’s family have now received further messages after a statement from the club on Friday morning.
During his career at the club Hunter won several honours, whilst also representing England at international level, indeed he was part of the successful 1966 World Cup winning side.
Reacting to the news of his tragic passing via the club’s official Twitter account, fans sent their best wishes to Hunter’s family whilst also remembering the former defender, with one labelling him a ‘legend‘.
