Oliver Langford has been appointed as the referee for Leeds United’s crunch West Yorkshire derby against Huddersfield Town on Saturday (EFL).
The Whites welcome the Terriers to Elland Road looking to further consolidate their position in the Championship’s top two places. Indeed, they sit in second going into the weekend’s fixtures, five points above Fulham in third (BBC Sport).
Langford has already been in the middle for four Leeds matches this season and it is fair to say that their record when he has the whistle isn’t great. He was in charge of their penalty shootout loss against Stoke City in the EFL Cup and their league draw against Derby County earlier in the season. Since the turn of the year, he refereed games against Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest, both of which finished as 2-0 defeats for Marcelo Bielsa’s men (Transfermarkt).
Overall this season he has refereed 25 matches and in that time he has dished out 99 yellow cards and awarded six penalty kicks (Transfermarkt).
It seems that loads of Leeds fans are unhappy about the appointment, with some believing that he isn’t a great official whilst others are perhaps worried given their poor record when he has been involved this term.
Here is what some had to say on Twitter…
He’s dreadful.

That bodes well, I guess time wasting is a by product of his officiating. Not a great ref in my opinion.
